Thai League 2 Weekly Roundup with Phil Williams

The Penultimate Chaos

Welcome to the penultimate week of the T2 season, a time when calculators are dusted off, fingernails are chewed to the bone, and logic takes an extended holiday. Matchweek 33 delivered exactly the kind of frantic, desperate football we've come to expect when promotion dreams and relegation nightmares collide. From late equalisers to spectacular implosions, here’s how the weekend's absolute chaos unfolded as we brace ourselves for a truly crazy final day next Saturday! (Simon Causton)

Rasisalai United 3 - 0 Mahasarakham

Another good day at the office for champions Rasisalai United, scoring three second half goals including a brace for substitute Wichit Kongsinkhaew. Mahasarakham now looking unlikely play-off contenders, and relying on a major slip-up from 6th place Chainat.

Pattani 2 - 1 Chantaburi

Pattani moved into the second place automatic promotion spot with a somewhat laboured victory over struggling Chantaburi. Pattani are now relying on Pattaya United to do them an enormous favour at home to Sisaket tomorrow. Chantaburi could be in real trouble if two or three of the teams below them pick up points in their Sunday games.

Chiang Mai United 3 - 0 Nongbua Pichaya

Woogeun Jeong grabbed a couple of goals in a superb home victory for Chiang Mai United. They're not out of trouble yet near the foot of the table, and they have a final day trip to Kasetsart, but Chiang Mai have the points on the board. The defeat ended Nongbua's automatic promotion hopes and they will be in the play-offs.

Police Tero 3 - 1 Phrae United

Police Tero are certain of a play-off place after goals from Isaac Honey, Weerawat and Pedro saw them home in front of a disappointing crowd at the NT Stadium. Phrae can still mathematically make the top six but they're now very much an outside bet.

Pattaya United 3 - 3 Sisaket United

A six-goal thriller at the Nong Phrue Stadium with Suphaphon Sutthisak netting what could be a priceless equaliser for Sisaket in the 87th minute. It means that Sisaket go into the final day of the season in the automatic promotion box seat - and a home game against Songkhla, who have the worst away record in T2. Pattaya are virtually safe for another season on account of their identical head-to-head record with Nakhon Pathom, but a far superior overall goal difference.

Songkhla 0 - 1 Nakhonsi United

Mohammed Essam's 85th minute penalty gave Nakhonsi their first win in eight games but it's all come too late for The Southern Dragons. They need a 20-goal swing in the final round of matches next Saturday to overhaul Kasetsart FC - and that just ain't going to happen.

Khon Kaen United 1 - 0 Kasetsart

A 38th minute goal from Palitchok settled the contest and leaves play-off chasing Khon Kaen needing a win at Mahasarakham on the final day, as well as relying on results elsewhere. 15th place Kasetsart need just one point in their last game at home to Chiang Mai United to be sure of avoiding relegation to T3.

Nakhon Pathom 0 - 3 Bangkok FC

A disastrous home defeat to the already relegated Bangkok FC sees Nakhon Pathom now fighting for their T2 lives. They absolutely have to win their last game of the season away at Phrae United - and also rely on other teams doing them favours.

Trat FC 3 - 3 Chainat Hornbill

Chainat were just seconds away from claiming the 6th place play-off spot but a goal from Phillerson in the 8th minute of injury time saw ten-man Trat FC rescue a dramatic point. Unfortunately, that result still ends Trat's interest in the play-offs (Chainat have the better head-to-head record) but for Chainat, the promotion dream is very much alive. Can they hang on to that 6th place by beating Pattaya United at home on the last day? A draw may not be enough if other results go against them.
