Matchday four wrapped up Thai League 2’s opening block before the division shuts down for a three-week international break, and the table has been given a proper shake: Khon Kaen United sit alone on nine points, Chainat Hornbill and Muangthong United have both climbed eight places in a single weekend, and Nakhon Ratchasima’s winless start already has them looking anxiously over their shoulders. There were seven-goal thrillers at both ends of the weekend too, in Uttaradit and at Nong Bua Pitchaya. Kasetsart put their first point on the board with a goalless draw against Nakhon Pathom on a ‘farmer’s field’ of a pitch at the Insee Chantarasatit Stadium.
Elias Souza missed a penalty for the away side midway through the second half but a draw was a fair result.
That’s played four and drawn four for Nakhon Pathom. At least they’re proving harder to beat than last season.

Extra: The underlying numbers were even — 50/50 on possession — but Nakhon Pathom didn’t register a single shot on target all game. Kasetsart are still waiting on their first league goal of the season, four games in.

High-flying surprise package Muang Loei continued to defy the odds with a terrific draw down south.
Amarildo Junior put Songkhla ahead in the 41st minute of what had been a poor first half. Steeven Langil then fluffed a glorious chance to make it two.
Ruan Santos smashed the ball into the roof of the net for the Muang Loei equaliser four minutes from time – and the camera showing Coach Chanabut punching the air at the final whistle rather said it all.

Extra: Songkhla’s coach Anon Bandasak had talked up going top with a win beforehand — “I have to take three points and go top,” he said pre-match — so a stoppage-time leveller will sting all the more at the Tinsulanon.

Pattaya dropped into the bottom four with their second 0-3 home defeat of the season. The Dolphins just can’t seem to click at home.
Phrae’s three goals included a brace for Nipitpon Hadchan and a delicious direct free kick from the always dangerous Taku Ito. It was a far too easy win for The Horsemen.
That’s just one goal for Pattaya in their opening four games, and that came in the first weekend at Chiang Mai United.

Extra: The underlying numbers make it sting more — Pattaya had 56% of the ball and the better expected-goals return, 1.91 to 1.30, but lost by three anyway.

A 7-goal thriller at the Uttaradit Provincial saw The Broken Sword move into second place.
Uttaradit’s number 17, Kritsada Sriwanit, sidefooted his team into the lead on 17 minutes – his third goal in three games – only for The Rabbits to equalise a few minutes later.
A goalkeeping error handed Uttaradit the lead again on 32 minutes. 2-1 at half time.
Chantaburi netted another equaliser early in the second half with a Bruno Cantahede header, but Uttaradit rather ran away with the contest making it 4-2 with goals from Brendon Lucas and Luan Santos.
We weren’t done yet though as Chantaburi conjured up their third goal in the 80th minute – but Uttaradit managed to see out the final stages.
Another excellent result for Uttaradit on a shocker of a pitch, while the Chantaburi of this season look just like the Chantaburi of last season.

Extra: It was the second 4-3 scoreline in Thai League 2 in as many days, following Nongbua Pichaya’s own shootout with PT Satun on Saturday.

Coach Dusit Chalermsan returned to haunt his old club, stealing a point thanks to a late equaliser from Satsanapong. It could have been all three points if Chenrop hadn’t squandered a glorious chance for The Purple Crabs in the dying seconds.
That’s three successive draws for promotion favourites Kanchanaburi, and results are not doing much for the mood of the Korean coach Park Hang Seo, who cuts a tetchy, dour figure in the dugout.
He doesn’t like losing (or drawing) that fella!

Extra: Khon Kaen’s win elsewhere means the promotion favourites start the three-week break three points off the pace at the top of the table.

Khon Kaen went top of the T2 table with a deserved victory over Police Tero. Rosalvo put the home side in front after 32 minutes, and Veerapong sealed the deal with a super strike on 76.
Not a happy hunting ground this for Police Tero. They’ve taken just two points from their last five visits.

Extra: The numbers back it up — 50/50 on the ball but 6 shots on target to Police Tero’s 1. Khon Kaen are the only side in the division on nine points, sitting top by three as the break begins.

Muangthong welcomed their new signings and superstars to the team line-up now that the FIFA restrictions have been lifted. And when Jaroensak centred for Streli Mamba to sidefoot home after 13 minutes, it felt like we were in for a routine home victory on a wet night in North Bangkok.
It didn’t quite pan out that way and credit to the visiting Chiang Mai for staying in the contest.

Extra: The new arrivals Phil mentions are Jaroensak Wonggorn, Rivaldinho, Pakorn Prempak and Thailand U-20 captain Pichaya Khongsri — a squad overhaul that’s lifted Muangthong eight places in the table in a single weekend.

What on earth is going on at Nakhon Ratchasima? – winless in their opening four matches and in the bottom three. Chainat were great value for this win, though. Colourful striker Mubarak Ahmed put the Hornbills in front in first half injury time. Onion Badji’s sublime strike on the hour mark put the game to bed.
Nakhon Ratchasima bundled in a late consolation but when the camera panned on the coach, his expression said it all. He can’t quite believe the Swatcat shit shows that are unfolding in front of him.
First coach heading for the exit door anyone?

Extra: The underlying numbers make for grim reading at home — 58% possession and 12 shots — and Nakhon Ratchasima still found a way to lose.

One of those unbelievable and utterly wonderful T2 games, as PT Satun fought back from 3-1 down only to concede a late winner from The Gamecocks – with Luan Costa the man writing the headline.
The three points moved Nongbua up into second place.
But seriously, if you’re looking for entertainment – go and watch PT Satun. That’s 20 goals in their opening four games.

Extra: The win moves Nongbua to within two points of Khon Kaen at the top after four rounds. Caio Rodrigues da Cruz, on target again here, has now had a hand in three goals — two scored, one assisted — in his first four league games.
